okay, so. it was clear that i was drinking too much anyway. yes, it was unhealthy. but, most likely even unhealthier is this drug i am about to have to take for latent tuberculosis, a condition with which i have just been diagnosed. (oh grammar! my coy mistress. it's such a love/hate affair. i know i should NOT, just NOT, end a sentence with a preposition, and yet. . .. and yet. . . it becomes nearly irresistible).
anyway, yes indeed. oui. si. ya. ja. YES YES YES. i have been diagnosed with latent CONSUMPTION. which sounds very scary, and IS very scary, but not very scary as perhaps, being a real african living in xambia with both HIV and TB! my friend erica, who lived in xambia, assures me that these dual afflictions are as common as say, obesity is in this fine, overfed country. and so. i have more in common with malnourished and impoverished Africans than I do with my fellow hefty, rosy-cheeked, non-consumptive countrymen.
But. I digress.
I have no idea where I could have been exposed to the damn thing! Perhaps my few trips to Rikers Island. However, I did read today that "Prolonged exposure to a person with untreated TB usually is necessary for infection to occur." !!! So what prolonged exposure could I have possibly had? Yes, this I know not!
